AI calling, SMS, and fax embedded inside Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams Phone delivers a functional dial tone. DialPhone layers the AI features Teams Phone doesn’t include — AI-drafted SMS, a 24/7 AI Receptionist, Proactive Workflow Automation to log calls into your CRM, 100 percent interaction analytics for contact center, and online fax — all inside the Teams client users already live in. Provisions in hours via Operator Connect, or weeks via Direct Routing for complex enterprise requirements.

Two connection options

DialPhone is a Microsoft-certified Operator Connect partner. Provisioning runs inside the Teams admin center — you don’t run SBCs, carriers, or any of the PSTN infrastructure. Microsoft handles the Teams side; DialPhone handles the PSTN side; together they operate as one voice platform.

  • Fast — deploy in hours for small rollouts, days for enterprise
  • No SBC required — all PSTN connectivity managed by DialPhone on cert Azure
  • Predictable per-user pricing — no per-country Calling Plan gotchas
  • Global reach — numbers available in 46+ countries
  • Microsoft-managed — provisioning and lifecycle inside Teams admin center

Direct Routing (for complex enterprise)

Direct Routing fits customers who:

  • Already run an SBC (AudioCodes, Ribbon, Oracle SBC, etc.)
  • Have multi-region requirements spanning Operator Connect availability and non-OC regions
  • Need specialized call routing (survivable branch appliance, emergency services integration, complex recording)
  • Are in a phased migration from a legacy on-premises PBX

DialPhone SBC configuration and support are included in enterprise engagements.

Mixed deployments

Nothing forces a single integration model. A global enterprise can run Operator Connect in the US and UK, Direct Routing in a country without Operator Connect availability, and Calling Plans in a country where DialPhone doesn’t operate — all within one Microsoft 365 tenant. See how this works for global enterprises.

Deployment timeline

  • Small team (5–50 users): Operator Connect provisioning in 1 day, numbers ported in 2–5 business days, users trained in 1 hour
  • Mid-market (50–500 users): full rollout in 1–2 weeks including Teams admin center configuration, user provisioning via SCIM, and call-flow recreation
  • Enterprise (500–10,000+ users): 7-day national rollout with a dedicated Customer Success Manager covering change management, training, parallel-running, and cutover

Supported regions

DialPhone operates in 46+ countries with local regulatory compliance (emergency services, number format, recording requirements). Data residency elections are per-workload: voice recordings can be pinned to EU, call signaling can use global routing, SMS can live in the US — all in the same tenant.

Enterprise compliance

SOC 2 Type II audited. HIPAA BAA available. GDPR, FINRA, PCI-DSS compliant. Microsoft Teams’ BAA covers Teams chat, meetings, and file workloads. DialPhone’s BAA covers voice, SMS, and fax. Together they cover the full unified communications stack for regulated industries.

DialPhone for Microsoft Teams — Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Direct Routing and Operator Connect?
Operator Connect is Microsoft's managed program where Microsoft-certified carriers (like DialPhone) provide PSTN connectivity directly through the Teams admin center — no SBC required, provisioning is a few clicks, pricing is predictable per user. Direct Routing is a customer-managed model where the customer operates a Session Border Controller (SBC) and contracts with carriers separately — more flexibility for complex dial plans, hybrid deployments, or legacy PBX coexistence, but more ongoing operational overhead. DialPhone supports both.
Do I need to replace my Teams licenses?
No. DialPhone adds to your existing Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E1, E3, or E5 licenses. You need a Teams Phone Standard license (or E5, which includes it) for each user who will receive external PSTN calls through Teams. DialPhone provides the PSTN connectivity and numbers; Microsoft provides the Teams client, identity, meetings, and chat. Your existing tenant stays put — DialPhone registers as a voice operator within it.
Can I use my existing Teams phone numbers?
Yes. Free number porting from your current Teams provider (Microsoft Calling Plans, another Operator Connect carrier, or a Direct Routing provider) to DialPhone. Porting typically completes in 2 to 5 business days with zero service interruption. Numbers reassign to the same Teams users seamlessly — users see no change in their calling experience during or after the port.
Does SMS work inside Teams?
Yes. DialPhone embeds SMS sending and receiving as a Teams app that runs inside the Teams client. Users text customers from the same interface where they chat with colleagues. Shared team inboxes prevent collision, AI drafting suggests replies based on CRM context, and compliance (TCPA, 10DLC, STOP-keyword handling) runs in the background. This is a capability Teams Phone itself does not offer.
Is it HIPAA compliant?
Yes. DialPhone signs a Business Associate Agreement and meets HIPAA Security Rule requirements on voice, SMS, and online fax. Microsoft Teams itself is HIPAA-eligible under Microsoft's BAA for chat, meetings, and file storage. Both BAAs together provide end-to-end HIPAA coverage for the full unified communications stack. Healthcare customers run this combination to get the productivity of Teams with the clinical-communication compliance that fax and voice demand.
